Honoring Stamford's Outstanding Citizens

ABOUT US

Honoring Individuals Who Make A Difference

Honoring individuals who have truly "made a difference" in our community through their voluntary service and participation in civic life.

What We Are About

For over 70 years, the City of Stamford has recognized a Stamford resident for his or her service to the community. Since its founding in 1945, The City of Stamford Citizen of the Year program has been sponsored on behalf of the City of Stamford by The Fred Robbins Post 142, Jewish War Veterans of The United States. This proud tradition continues and our original mission has been greatly expanded.

Since 2003, through JWV Community Scholarships a (501(c)(3) charity), we have awarded over $120,000 in scholarships at the annual Citizen of the Year dinner to 27 seniors from area high schools who live and volunteer in Stamford. These students are recognized for their outstanding service and contribution to our community. Each scholarship is awarded in honor of a U.S. Veteran, who is also recognized for his/her service to our country and our community.

Our children are our community’s future Citizens of the Year. It is only fitting that we recognize high school students who give of themselves to improve the quality of life in Stamford. By honoring exemplary Stamford student leaders with JWC Community Scholarships in concert with the Citizen of the Year program, we help them reach their academic goals and reinforce the importance of their volunteer work and commitment to helping others.

HONORING OUR VETERANS

In recognition of their service the program honors Veterans by awarding the

scholarships in the names of Stamford veterans who have selflessly served our country and our Community as well

Due To the Corona Virus Outbreak

We were not able to properly honor our 2019 recipient

The COTY Committee has therefore decided that we will not select a 2020

recipient and plan on honoring Cathy next year at our annual event

Scholarship Applications for Seniors Graduating in 2021 are being accepted
