CITY OF STAMFORD CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Mrs. Hoyt became an elder at The First Presbyterian Church of Stamford. She married the Rev. Dr. Eugene Carson Blake on June 14, 1974. Her first marriage to the late J. King Hoyt ended in divorce.

 

Jean Ware Hoyt was named Stamford Citizen of the Year for her efforts to lead others in service of the Stamford community. Mrs. Hoyt was a past president of the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, 1936-1940. The organization whose members are women was incorporated 1923. The members volunteer with several different charities including the Visiting Nurse Association, the Associated Charities, the Children’s Home, Neighborhood House, the Red Cross and Stamford Hospital. Under Mrs. Hoyt’s leadership the organization founded the Child Guidance Clinic and Stamford Hospital Hostess Desk serving the health needs of area residents.
