Tony P. Pia

Tony Pia was born and raised in Stamford. He attended Stamford schools and was named the most valuable player on the Stamford High School football team in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years beginning in 1943. In 1967, he retired as a sergeant. He worked as Stamford’s assistant director of the Human Rights Commission for 23 years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Stamford Municipal Credit Union. Mr. Pia also hosted a radio show on WSTC, Stamford for veterans. He was also honored by several other organizations for his dedication to Stamford including the North Stamford Lions Club, Stamford Jaycees, Stamford Patriotic and Special Events Commission, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Stamford Exchange Club. Mr. Pia was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2007.
Tony P. “Old Srage” Pia was named Stamford’s Citizen of the Year for his dedicated service to Stamford, his hometown. He single-handedly engineered the installation of the memorial to Stamford’s veterans at the Veterans Park on Atlantic Street as chairman of the Veterans Memorial Monument Committee.
