Edith Sherman

1979

Mrs. Sherman was born in New York City. She served on Stamford’s Board of Representative from 1969-1973. She was chairman of the Urban Redevelopment Commission from 1974 to 1984. She had a major role in the design and building of the Stamford Town Center Mall, which opened in 1982. Mrs. Sherman also served as chairman of the New Committee for Transportation for Handicapped and Elderly and was president of the Yerwood Center. She was involved with the Forum for World Affairs, the Stamford women’s club, the Stamford Economic Assistance Corporation, the Teen Life Center and Literacy Volunteers. She worked as executive administrator of Overbrook Farm, the north Stamford estate of the Altschul family for 17 years.

 

Edith Sherman was named Stamford Citizen of the Year for her efforts to revitalize downtown Stamford during the 1970s and 1980s
