George Ducanic

2007

Mention George Ducanic’s name and most people, familiar with George, immediately associate him with Veterans’ Affairs. For practical purposes all of George’s adult life has been tirelessly devoted to improving the lives of Veterans and their dependents residing in the Stamford area.


He has served multiple terms as Post Commander of the local American Legion, VFW and DAV Posts. He resurrected the American Legion baseball program in 1980, which still flourishes today. Amongst his many other ongoing community activities are his position as Lower Fairfield County Coordinator of the annual “Toys for Tots” program, and his providing transportation of disabled veterans to local VA clinics as well as to the West Haven VA Hospital.


A U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, George Ducanic was Grand Marshal of Stamford’s Veterans’ Day Parade in 2004, and was chosen as “Veteran of the Year” by the Stamford Senior Center in 2003.
